Patch version of Nuclear Winter (1.4) is live
Aug 16 2010, 09:20 AM
PointlessAmbler

For the five of you who haven't already downloaded the full version of Nuclear Winter, there's now a patch available that will patch you up from the last version (1.3.1). It's significantly smaller than the full installer, weighing in at around 40 megabytes instead of 500. Sorry for the delay in getting this out to you guys. To download it, go click on the patch link at the top of the homepage.

In other news, development progresses on an even newer version of the game which we've been referring to forever as Gamma (v. 2.0). There is a new blog this week that showcases screenshots and a short video taken from recent testing. It's shaping up to be great!

Patch delayed due to technical issues
Aug 6 2010, 05:18 PM
PointlessAmbler

I know I mentioned in an earlier post that there would be a 1.3.1 -> 1.4 patch. Currently, however, our normal utility seems to fail at correctly patching the game data files for reasons unknown. I have been researching alternate methods of patching, but they're nowhere near as good as the tool we normally use; a "patch" would probably be 300+ MB using this method.

Considering the full installer is about 500 MB, this doesn't seem like a great solution. We're currently waiting to see if we can fix the original tool we were using, but if we can't, there may not be much of a point in releasing a patch, per se. You can express your thoughts about this by posting a comment.

This in no way affects people who already have downloaded and installed the updated full version of the game, so if you're already capable of playing in the public servers, you're good.

For people having Launcher problems...
Aug 3 2010, 12:36 PM
PointlessAmbler

Due to an oversight on my part, uninstalling Cold Fusion after installing Nuclear Winter will cause the launcher to fail to launch the game correctly -- you'll know you have the problem if a window pops up saying "Couldn't find a path to renalert.exe in the registry." when you run the launcher. If you haven't uninstalled CF already, don't do it; we have a patch version coming out soon, probably later today. It's much better to just delete the CF folder than "Uninstall" it.

If you HAVE uninstalled CF after installing NW, there is a fix; read this thread for more info. Also, if you are still having this issue and you didn't uninstall CF after installing Nuclear Winter, let me know, the problem might be bigger than I thought. Post here, leave comments. Tell me if this worked or not.

RA: Reloaded released, & two APB Blogs
Jul 13 2010, 01:08 AM
Chronojam

Good news, everyone! Player1 just released his mod-of-a-mod, the appropriately titled Red Alert: Reloaded. Built on top of Bittah Commander's Dawn of the Tiberian Age (a must-have standalone Tiberian Sun conversion), RA:R brings the world of Red Alert 1 back to life on Tiberian Sun's engine. Both of these fantastic conversions help you sidestep a lot of the problems and clunkiness that made the first two C&C games a bit tricky to play these days. You must have DTA to play RA:R so be sure to get both!

There are also two new dev blogs up! First, PointlessAmbler shows off his work on the new launcher/configuration tool for NW/Gamma in the July 10 blog. Next, I've got the list of confirmed and tentative maps for Gamma (nearly 30) plus some previews of brand new mapwork in the July 12 blog. In addition we've got new propwork, parabombs, and ten minutes of testing footage. Be sure to check out both new APB blogs!

AW Clan Forum issue

If you have an account at the AW Clan forum, you should immediately change your passwords if you have used the same one elsewhere. There was reportedly a security issue recently that may have exposed your password, and their forums have been taken offline as a precaution.

Remember, do not use identical passwords at multiple locations. Do not use the same password at your clan forum as you do at the official game or server forums.
